Hey, Andrew! Teach Me Some Greek! Our Review

Both of my children are fascinated with other cultures and they absolutely love learning about the languages. When I was given the opportunity to review Hey, Andrew! Teach Me Some Greek! - Level 3 Set from Greek 'n' Stuff I knew Skyler would be extremely interested! She has never had any form of instruction in the Greek language so she was given the Level 3 set to use, this is intended for students in grades 4 and older. This level is for those who have completed level 2 or older newbies which is what my daughter is. She is in grade 7, and this was just right for her!  
There are a total of 8 levels in the Greek series so there is one for every skill level out there!   


     For our review I was given the Level 3 student text, answer key and the pronunciation CD, which is used in levels 3 and 4. The student book consists of 36 lessons, and it is basically a page a day activity. If you decide to use the page a day then the curriculum will last for a full school year. Obviously you can always plan this around your schedule. I just love flexible programs! The first part of the Level 3 set starts out with quite a bit of review which is why this level can be used by those who have no previous instruction. 

Our Review Of English On A Roll

          Thanks to The Review Crew I was given a chance at reviewing English Grammar Teaching Method from English on a Roll. This year I have gotten to try so many new things and I have realized that with my older son Fox he is really a hands on kid. He struggles with things that are just written on a page. We have tried some grammar type games in the past but sadly none actually clicked. Thanks to English on a Roll there is now a multi sensory approach to grammar instruction. The program can be used by anyone five years and up so no worries about which level for this or that!


     The set includes a sturdy plastic case which holds 40 color coded cubes to be used during the lessons. The lesson book consists of 37 lessons. The program starts out very basic and moves into harder topics. The lesson book is very thorough in explaining everything. It answered any questions I could possibly have in a very straight forward down to earth manner. It also includes a cube guide so you can very clearly see which cubes are which. 

     Each color is meant for a different part of speech, such as noun, pronoun, article, verb and so on. The set also includes question words and punctuation. You can also use the cubes for up to six students, so there is no need to purchase several. This is another plus in my eyes to the program. 

Our Review Of Rigid Wrap With Quick Sculpting Clay

     When you have an artsy kid you will be amazed at all the products available to them that you may never have heard of! When I was given the chance to have Skyler use and review the Rigid Wrap and CelluClay Quik-Sculpting Kit from ACTIVA Products I was sure to jump on that offer. The company also included a wonderful e-book called ACTIVA Products' Favorite Sculpture KIDS CRAFTS that was full of projects ideas as well. It was great having pictures and directions for projects for those of us who were completely unfamiliar with the product. This is similar to paper mache but way cooler according to my kiddo. 



       Skyler was eager to try it out I on the other hand was a tad bit scared because honestly it looked hard! I am so grateful God gave me a big brave girl though because she was such a trooper! Out of all the possible projects she chose a simple one since she had never used this before and wanted to get a good idea of how it worked and what she could do with it. We received a box of two rolls of the Rigid Wrap and one bag of the powdered CelluClay. There are some directions included in the box for some Rigid Wrap projects but the e-book is much better!

Our Review of Lightning Lit and Comp

     With my son moving into the high-school years I am trying to get him more into studying literature. I had never even heard of Hewitt Homeschooling before so this was a great introduction to their products. Since my son Fox is really into American History I was thrilled to receive the American Literature: Mid-Late 19th Century course. My kiddo adores history but American is his favorite so when I want him to try something out I aim to stick with what I know will grab his interest.      For the review we were all sent the student and teacher guides for the course. There are books of course to go along with it. If you are not purchasing from the company they do suggest you get the unabridged copies of the books for your student. I was also pleased to see the student guide had poetry already included in it. I think all kids should at least be exposed to poetry even if they don't strive to become a poet! I really like courses that broaden the horizons so to speak. 

Our Review Of Rush Revere

      As with any other homeschool parent I am always on the look out for great books. With that being said I was thrilled to be offered the chance to review the Adventures of Rush Revere #1 New York Times Best Selling Book Series by Rush and Kathryn Adams Limbaugh. These books were so colorful and beautiful they grabbed my daughters attention right away. 

Our Review Of UnLock Math

      For years we had been set with our math program. There was no need to look anywhere else in my opinion because they were doing great with what we had. Sadly last year that stopped being the case. I have tried a few things and when the chance to review the UnLock Math  program came up I jumped on it. While the program offers different topics we are using the UnLock Pre-Algebra. I am so glad I did too! My son Fox is doing wonderful with it and he doesn't complain! That is a HUGE bonus right there, the lack of complaint. He is also learning which is obviously the most important thing of all. Math is a giant struggle in our house. My children all take after me with the math, it just doesn't click in our heads so to speak! Finding this program was a blessing.   This is a full and complete curriculum and will take about nine months to complete when used daily. Of course with it being an online program your child can finish faster or take longer. It is best in my opinion to go at the child's pace and not push a time table on them causing unneeded stress.         Now onto the program! You will start by setting up your parent account. It is easy as pie by the way! You add your students and they assign them a log-in and you pick a password. Now the students can still get to their assignments if you sign on with the parent account which is what my son does because he hates to remember passwords and since google stores mine he just goes with it. I will say that signing is is not an issue or a problem at all either. 

Our Review of Memoria Press Nature's Beautiful Order

      Since my son had had such fun with Memoria Press First Form Greek when the chance to review one of their science programs came up I had to jump on it! I just love using this wonderful  products.  Memoria Press provides the most beautiful classical christian curriculum and Nature's Beautiful  Order is no exception!  I have an animal kid so this was right up her alley. This is perfect for students in 6-8 grade and even a great supplement in higher level Biology. She has truly enjoyed her trip through the animal kingdom. 





      This is an 18 week course but, of course with homeschool you can always make your own schedule. Skyler treated her student book more as a reader. we started on the table and about an hour later she was snuggled on the couch! The set consists of a teachers key, a student book and a student workbook. The cost of the program is just $45.00 so not a huge expense at all. 

Our Review Of Clara Barton: Courage Under Fire

     Ever since Skyler read Bessie's Pillow she has been interested in learning about other young women in history. When offered the chance to review the book Clara Barton: Courage Under Fire, I was happy to help. This book is one in a set by YWAM Publishing a Christian company called Heroes In History. There are twenty eight books to choose from, so finding an option should not be hard. All the books are beautifully written and are meant to inspire our children showing them that regular normal people can be heroes too! Heroes come in many shapes or sizes and the best ones never thought of themselves as heroes. They were just doing the right thing. 




 With her book, blanket and best friend Stella she is thrilled to start a new adventure with her book! She couldn't wait to tell me all about the story of "The angel of the battlefield". I just love that she enjoys reading stories of true heroes. These best selling biographies are true stories. In a world full of made up heroes I feel it is extremely important to allow children to realize that a cape or a cool suit is not a hero. I enjoy that my children are learning that a real hero doesn't advertise or expect anything in return. They do the right thing and make the right choices because they genuinely care about people.

     Fox is loving his fidget spinner! So now it is a hat every where he goes and a spinner!

     Skyler is still working on printed pages. We are getting ready to start lounging off so we are putting off starting her next one. 

Our Review Of The Thin Stix And A Giveaway!!!!!!!!

      If you have a crafty artsy kiddo then you are always looking for new stuff to spark the creative juices! When offered the chance to review these Thin Stix 6 pack of Classic Colors I just couldn't resist! These are made by The Pencil Grip, Inc. They have all kinds of nifty little products besides these so check them out for sure!
     They have bigger packs available and even different colors of paint.  I know Skyler really wants to try the neon pack next and she has already told grandma about the creativity pack. It has glitter so as far as my kiddo is concerned it is already a winner! They even have a pack that includes a paper roll. That would be wonderful for on the go fun. They are also available at Toys R US. Besides the painting products they also have fidget items and cute little pencil grips!
     These little guys are a no mess kids art supply! It dries in ninety seconds or less! I know that usually when you think of the fast drying types of paint products you think of younger kids but Skyler is 12 and had a blast with them. It is always nice to give a kid different options no matter how old or young they may be. They are made of tempera paint and of course non-toxic. I also noticed they didn't have a bad odor like many of the quick drying type paints we have used in the past.

Inventors and Inventions Basket

     The Inventors and Inventions Basket! This basket was ideally made with my son in mind because he loves to mess with stuff and build things. All though if my daughter shows any interest in it she is free to use it as well. What I try to do is give Wednesdays and Thursdays for the kiddos to explore their baskets or do any kind of research for things that are of interest to them. The majority of this stuff came from my book shelves! 

      These kits I did buy. Amazon sells them but I found a seller on EBay that had buy two get the 2nd 25% off and they were cheaper than Amazon to start with and free shipping as well. I like these kits because there are no directions just a box of pieces and ideas. MANY pieces!

Peek At Our Week 30

     As usual it was a full week around here. The kids were busy busy doing school, making projects and driving me crazy! Skyler has finished her All About Animals Journal but she isn't ready to let it go yet. I had to search through and find some pages she didn't finish to copy them and make her enough for the day. This has been her favorite journal so far. 

     She has finally wrapped up learning about Chicago in her Travel Dreams journal. Next week it is off to Hong Kong.

     Another fun week around here was about it for us! Fox had a blast learning all about Morse Code and making a little machine that actually worked. He played with it for hours spelling out different stuff. He started answering us all with it!

Our Review of IEW High School Essay Intensive

  For my son writing is actually worse than pulling teeth! I had always heard great things about Institute for Excellence in Writing or IEW, so when offered the chance to review the product High School Essay Intensive I thought it was the perfect chance to try this company out. I am so glad I did too! The author Andrew Pudewa is truly a gifted speaker. 

     Fox dreads writing, I mean he hates it more than math which says quite a bit! We have tried a few different writing programs before but he was never really able to grasp any of it. To him it was dry, dull and boring. As far as he was concerned he could tell a great story and that was enough. Finding a program to really get him to understand how to put his thoughts in order and on to paper has been a challenge. I think we have finally found the answer! 

     This is the second edition of High School essay Intensive. It was updated in 2016 for the new requirements on the SAT and ACT tests. I truly appreciate a company willing to go the extra mile in updating products, to me that shows they really care. They want your child to succeed. 

Peek At Our Week 28 and a Butterfly Filed Trip!

       Well our week started with me still recovering from the sick! Skyler was lucky enough to go on a field trip to the museum and learn all about butterflies! 

     She even learned how to mount them and got to bring it home! It was beautiful. We love butterflies around here.

     We had a totally full and busy week!! After being off for two weeks and all of us sick it was a welcome change! They had no issue getting back to journals and science kits.

   Fox is loving all the science kit use. I have pretty much given them free reign to use them whenever they want and he takes full advantage of it. He decided to play with some water on this one.
