Week Seven!

This week was pretty decent. We went to the electric comapny for a fieldtrip. That was pretty interesting. They watched alot of demonstrations which the kiddos liked. They seemed to enjoy watching little model people get fired up!

We then came home to use the long ago bought electricity science kit. This is a Target buy from forever ago to be truthful. One of those things I convinced Jack I just had to have and later stuck in a box until I remembered.

The kids had fun hooking all the little doo dads up and making sound and light from a battery and a rubberband. They learned alot about safety and actually so did I. We did the basics this week. The daily learning book, math, grammar etc. I canceled school on Thursday. I haven't been feeling great this week so I needed a down day and a catch up on straightening the house day since we had other stuff going on. We did make punkin seeds as my son calls them so that was great!

Week 6

The week started out pretty organized! Their workboxes were all full and ready to go! They started Winning With Writing this week. The boys are not liking it at all. They really hate writing but sometimes you just gotta do things you don't wanna do. Skyler is OK with it so far. They started a study of a new painting by John Trumbull. They have continued using their daily learning book and I have started to make them look up their own stuff in it this week. It is full of math charts, grammar rules etc. Maybe if they have to look it up enough they will start to remember it themselves.

On a bike break Fox an over a snake in the road and just had to bring it home to show me!
I do not like snakes but my kids like anything that crawls or lives outside. At first he felt bad that he killed the snake. He also wanted to see the spine lol. People pay alot of money for things to dissect. I figured they could go ahead and use a freebie science activity and let them loose with the dissecting kit. I also printed out a gogle image to follow along. The boys found all the organs! They also found its lunch. After they found that they were not feeling so bad anymore.

My kids are MAJOR frog lovers. They were none to happy to find this little guy in a snakes belly.

They also completed the first activity for Homeschool In The Woods artists study. On Wed. we went to the nature place as my kids call it to get some brochures about our state for their traveler. This place has tons of brochures about Floridas wildlife and nature. It is also right on the river so of course the kids had to go see. A few months back we had major flooding and they were pretty shocked to see that the water has not all went down yet. Some of the walkway by the river is still under.

On Thursady they went to a pumpkin patch/corn maze place. They made new friends they really had a great day

They got to feed and pet some animals.

Look at the bunnys with the tiny ears! I have never seen that before.
Skyler got a pony ride!

She road on a cow train.

The boys were none too happy with this picture moment.

They did go down this big slide. They did like this. I think they are getting past pumpkin patches. I have noticed this year they are really past alot of stuff that I keep pushing them to do. Just not ready to let go of mommas boys yet even though I know that like my older daughter the days are coming.

Damian shot a corn canon. I have never heard of these before but he liked it so thats good.

They liked running the corn maze.

They liked the spook trail best even though they said it could have been way scarier. That is all me. I love horror movies. I grew up with Jason and Freddy like some kids grew up with Leave It To Beaver. Halloween nights were always something amazing to me. We would trick or treat then come back and watch whatever scary movies were on TV. This is also the only holiday that I cannot remember my parents ever fighting. Kind of strange when you think about it. But scary was always amazing to me. The scarier the better. I can still remember haunted houses when I was small enough to fit on my bio dads shoulders. My kids love Halloween too and horror movies and blood lol. I think that the horror industry has ruined alot with the major amount of sex in the movies so sadly my kids don't get too see alot of the new stuff until it is edited for TV which makes for some unhappy kids in my house!

Well, that was our week. It wasn't too bad!

Week 5

This was an awesome week! Monday was amazing! I have no idea what got into Fox but his behavior was totally wonderful. We stayed on track, got everything done and there was minimal fighting between them. It was the best week so far! Fox got up in the morning with no bickering and rude remarks, Damian was actually doing his work instead of wasting time lolly gagging around. It was just great. They are still taking their break doing bike riding and I am still having their lunches ready. This week I did introduce the daily learning book.

I got the idea from another homeschooler. I have a morning board but in all hoensty I am kinda not into it anymore. Lugging it out, all the littlepieces that velcro on searching for them etc etc. Seems more trouble than it is worth.

Ever the picture perfect little girl!! So what is in their books?

100 day countdown for one. Calendar pages of course. Weather graphs and a number page where you have to write expanded form, word form, a daily sentence, tally marks etc. I know I used pages from alot of different resources including Confessions of a homeschooler. I am not really computer savy so I love the moms who share! I also added a mini office of a sort to their books. A mini office is basically a refernce folder of many different things. I did it when the older kids were small and the only thing I hated was once it had been laminated you couldn't add to it. This solved that problem I can add pages anytime I want! We also picked up cursive with the boys and started Skyler on hers.

Skyler loves cursive. The boys do not! I love cursive too. I love making the loopy loops in my handwriting. I can still remember being a teenager writing my signature over and over again,as well as my moms lol. We don't need to go there though do we?

Skyler is doing really well with grammer when we do it together. Left on her own she gets worried that they will all be wrong so she is fighting me trying to leave her at the table. Must work on independance.

Our state this week is New Hampshire. We actually have a New Hampshire box that we got from the swapping group on facebook. The kids had fun going through everything. As usual Fox wants to go. I promise if this kid would have lived back in the days of explorations he would have sailed the entire world many many times over. He wants to go everywhere.

Chemistry continues. The boys were none too thrilled with doing vocabulary words.

We also started using the homeschool in the woods author study and learned about The Brothers Grimm.

Of course our week is not even going to get through without an animal coming to vist, or three. These guys are always all over the yard. I almost think they come to play with the kids.

This is the biggest sticky frog we have ever seen.

As always I took way too many pictures so if you by chance wanna see more here ya go!  If you would like to check out our week 3 of Magic School you can go here.
