Folktales

Does she not realize it is Sunday??? That's OK everyday can be about doing stuff! Today we read our folktale which she chose The Boy Who Cried Wolf. Doing a folktale has taught me that there is a difference is fables, fairytales, etc. Also that I need to learn that difference. She is excited that she is finally all caught up to the present months theme!

She didn't want to do a paper project for this so she decided to make a diorama.

In the book all the sheep ended up in a tree so of course hers had to end up there too!

Of course after all that she did her lapbook.

She really likes her little story book passport! Next we are on to The Great Outdoors and camping!

Planes Trains and Automobiles!

For Planes Trains and Automobiles Skyler chose a book about the Wright Brothers. I think it had something to do with the fact there were also little mice characters in he book following along with the brothers as they grew up and managed to conquer the sky in flight in the year 1903. Those are the last words on every page so she had that down pat in a few pages!!

She liked this book alot and thought it was really cool that a toy given to them started the whole flying thing!! There are alot of crafts on line and even a lapbook about the brothers and flight but we had this pretty cool paper airplane book she decided to use. The World Record Paper Airplane Book.

She picked out a few planes then we folded them up to see which would go further!

This was the winner!! Hammerhead

After our plane contest she finished her lapbook pieces for it.

She really likes the book marks and the different themes. Next stop will be folktales where she chose the book The Boy Who Cried Wolf. I am fairly certain at this point if the book don't have an animal she has no interest!

Where in the World Theme

For the Where in the world theme we chose the book, Dodsworth in London. Skyler has a thing for books where the main characters are animals! Of course she had to do the book and the crafts and the lapbook all in one day!!

We headed over to papertoys to get a printable to make a model of the double decker bus. She is still into making crafts and such and had fun putting this together.

We also went to Activity Village for some London drawing pages.

She chose the bus of course and The Tower of London.

After that she had fun doing her lapbook stuff for the theme then looking up on the map in our big book.

Tomorrow we learn about The Wright Brothers and flight!!

Poppins Book Nook Lapbook

Skyler has her introduction lapbook all set up and ready to go! I made a pocket for all her bookmarks and a pocket for her writing sheets and passport. It seemed easier to put the passport in a pocket instead of stuck to her lapbook, this way she can write in it. We are going to work on finishing all the themes up until now.

She is ready!!!!

This is her passport

The pocket for her pages and passport

The pocket for bookmarks and her authors around the world map. Now we get started on Where in the World!!!

Poppins Book Nook and Skylers summer reading

I found the cutest site for Skyler and summer reading! It is called Poppins Book Nook and it is adorable. We are starting a bit later as it started in March but we are gonna play catch up starting tomorrow. We are starting with the Where in the World theme and we are heading to London!
Poppins Book Nook

This is truly adorable. There is an introduction lapbook and every month you get pieces to add to it that go along with the theme for the month. Skyler chose the book Dodsworth in London for her Where in the World theme. She really likes books about animals who act like people for some reason.
