Peek At Our week 1

      Well we had our first week and no one had a nervous breakdown! Yay for that!! We are easing our way in to a full schedule so we didn't hit on everything this week. Hopefully when we do no one has a nervous breakdown! Sadly, Fox was attacked and bitten by a dog Monday evening so his week was very limited. No major damage done just plenty of pain and anger towards a neighbor who knew her dog was aggressive and let it loose anyway. 

     The girls had a blast using the new Nature Study book by The Thinking Tree. I fell in love with these books almost two years ago and we still use them heavily in our school. I also love Sarah and her thoughts on education for kids! Her ideas are truly wonderful and child led. They have changed everything in our school!

     We also started our Author Basket this week for literature. We are studying Shakespeare and some of his plays and such. My goal with this basket is to introduce an author every two months or so to the kids. I found some fun things for this author as well! Magnetic words, paper puppets, coloring book and even mad libs!

Back To School Party!!

     School has begun!!! Today was our back to home school party! We had make your own ice cream sundaes and pizzas! We also have a new friend joining us for the year so Skyler is pretty excited she is going to have a buddy every day and Fox is wondering how he got surrounded by two little girls LOL. 

      You of course cannot have a party without decorating so the girls took over that job!

Eclipse Day!!!!

     
     ECLIPSE DAY 2017!!!! I think this was the most anticipated event of the year for our entire country! For a brief time we were all too busy staring at the sky to worry about politics, hate, debt and anything else that society has been arguing over. While Damian participated in the eclipse fun he refused pictures. The kids have been reading online and talking about this eclipse for months. We just decided to have a fun day. We watched the eclipse and made galaxy bark. 

Hey, Andrew! Teach Me Some Greek! Our Review

Both of my children are fascinated with other cultures and they absolutely love learning about the languages. When I was given the opportunity to review Hey, Andrew! Teach Me Some Greek! - Level 3 Set from Greek 'n' Stuff I knew Skyler would be extremely interested! She has never had any form of instruction in the Greek language so she was given the Level 3 set to use, this is intended for students in grades 4 and older. This level is for those who have completed level 2 or older newbies which is what my daughter is. She is in grade 7, and this was just right for her!  
There are a total of 8 levels in the Greek series so there is one for every skill level out there!   


     For our review I was given the Level 3 student text, answer key and the pronunciation CD, which is used in levels 3 and 4. The student book consists of 36 lessons, and it is basically a page a day activity. If you decide to use the page a day then the curriculum will last for a full school year. Obviously you can always plan this around your schedule. I just love flexible programs! The first part of the Level 3 set starts out with quite a bit of review which is why this level can be used by those who have no previous instruction. 

Our Review Of English On A Roll

          Thanks to The Review Crew I was given a chance at reviewing English Grammar Teaching Method from English on a Roll. This year I have gotten to try so many new things and I have realized that with my older son Fox he is really a hands on kid. He struggles with things that are just written on a page. We have tried some grammar type games in the past but sadly none actually clicked. Thanks to English on a Roll there is now a multi sensory approach to grammar instruction. The program can be used by anyone five years and up so no worries about which level for this or that!


     The set includes a sturdy plastic case which holds 40 color coded cubes to be used during the lessons. The lesson book consists of 37 lessons. The program starts out very basic and moves into harder topics. The lesson book is very thorough in explaining everything. It answered any questions I could possibly have in a very straight forward down to earth manner. It also includes a cube guide so you can very clearly see which cubes are which. 

     Each color is meant for a different part of speech, such as noun, pronoun, article, verb and so on. The set also includes question words and punctuation. You can also use the cubes for up to six students, so there is no need to purchase several. This is another plus in my eyes to the program.
