Field Trip!!!!! Medieval Fair 2018!!!!!!!!!!!

We wait all year! We plan for this! Our excitement builds until the day is finally here THE MEDIEVAL FAIR!!!!!!!!!!! We go every year and every year is better than the last, every year they learn even more and every year we add to the amazing memories we have made from this magical place!!! The Hoggetowne Medieval Faire!!!! We have things that have become traditions with this fair! We look forward to the actors every single year we know they will all be there! They are our favorite people of all! One day every year we get to step back in time to a place that is full of history and magic. It is as good as Christmas in this house!

The actors are beyond amazing! We love that is the same people over and over, it feels like seeing old friends! Skyler always dresses for it and it never ceases to amaze me the way they all act towards her. She always feels so special at the fair. We have been enjoying lunch in years past only to have musicians come and sit with her asking even to sit with the fair maiden! Her shyness goes away for this day and she is this bubble of energy. All of the kids have their favorite places to visit at the fair and their favorite things to see. Before we leave for the fair every year Skyler has a picture in her dress! She looks so pretty!!

As always our first stop is her visit with the King and Queen. As soon as we get to the fair this is where she wants to go!

This year Skyler has brought a gift for them. She has planned on what to make them all year long and i think it came out beautiful! The King also sang her a silly song with her name in it!

She made them a triptych. It has pictures of all her years growing up at the fair visiting them. She absolutely loves her visits with them.

After that she goes onto seeing all the stuff people have about daily life during the Middle Ages. She had plenty of fun sitting and watching games children played so long ago.

She enjoyed being able to make pictures on bookmarks with illuminated letters. I am not sure what kind of pencil that was but it was for sure something we don't use anymore!

We were all very shocked to learn just how long it took to make chain mail for the knights!

We also love the artists and seeing while they paint and draw. It was fun to learn that they used to keep paints in little sea shells as bowls. It is so hard to think they couldn't just run to a store and buy them!

We also learned all about scribes covering up their mistakes! Back then books were hand written so you couldn't just start over! Paper was sacred at that time.

The colors people could make with nature was just amazing. I will never look at onion skin the same way!

According to Skyler if they had all lived during that time her daddy would have been a blacksmith. I am not sure why but she feels this would have been his job. It was great fun to see a lady blacksmith as well.

We saw quite a few inventions of the time too and Da Vinci was front and center to us! Fox is a big Leonardo Da Vinci fan so we knew his work straight away!

We enjoyed hearing how things were made out of pewter and the stories of mishaps this man had to tell! Never drop liquid into a pot of melted metal!

Spices and such were very precious during this time as well! It was great fun learning that many of the things we use today were from that time as well. We could smell rosemary right off!

I am not sure we would have done much walking in these types of shoes!

We got yummy apple cake that had been made over a fire. I couldn't imagine having to cook like that! It was very good though. We saw grains and such that were used to make breads and cakes as well.

Rhyli just had to have a turn shooting the bow and arrow!

There were music shows as well. The music is so pretty!

The acts they put on are pretty neat to see. I love how they involve the kids!

Finally I got my kids to watch the jousting! It was also amazing that the King and Queen stopped to say hello and they know Skylers name! I am sure they visit with a billion kids so it is just wonderful that they go out of their way to make these kids feel special!

It was great seeing the knights in all their armor!

If I had to wear all that metal and such I would for sure need help with getting on a horse!

The jousting match was just perfect!

It was scary seeing them ride at each other with those huge poles!

After the jousting was over the knights took it to the ground on foot and I don't think the one who lost was too happy with it because he was harsh!!

The knights were the best thing about it according to Fox and Rhyli!

After the match this knight was great at talking with Fox. He gave him advice and explained things to him. I am sure he was ready for some downtime too but he just talked to Fox like they were old pals!

Other than Joan Of Arc I have honestly never heard about women knights before so this was a great lesson! There were lady knights and we will be looking up on that to learn more!

The girls even got to try on some armor!

They loved riding the barrel. I loved seeing them have a blast without an electronic! Sadly Skyler lost her circlet here and we couldn't find it. She had it since the very first fair we ever went too.

Seeing Robin Hood is always great fun!

Punch and Judy are among are favorites as well! Skyler still adores puppets.

Even a princess can get put in jail!

Getting a dragon is another big thing for Skyler! She has one for every year we have ever been to the fair.

We just had to have a new circlet!

AWWWW! Look at those pretty girls!

We truly enjoyed watching the birds of prey show!

      The birds are just beautiful!

      I love owls.

This owl seemed to really enjoy staring at Fox!

I am not exactly sure about this colorful lady but she sure is great fun!

O.K. skeleton man who is awfully tall!!  He got a hold of the girls just as we were leaving!

With that our day back in time was over and we had to return to the present! We truly love our days at the fair and wish we could just stay! It is just truly magical that is the only way to describe it. The people there are priceless and my kids wait every year to go. I wait as well! Until next year we will talk about this day and look forward to the next! Maybe next year is the year Skyler will keep her shoes on! It most likely won't be but after all on this day every year it don't matter. On this day it is all about having fun and seeing old friends.
