Our Review Of CTC Math

Thanks to the Review Crew we were given the amazing opportunity to try an online math curriculum that I had never heard of before, CTCMath and you can even try it out for free!  I will say the idea of Skyler doing an online program was very tempting after Fox has been doing so well with his. We were given the one year family membership to try out so both girls would be able to participate in using it. The program is for children in grades K through 12, which means all the way through calculus. Finding something that is good for a variety of ages or grades is a bonus especially for math.

CTCMath

The program was invented originally as an online tutoring program by a father of ten! I couldn't imagine making something like this when I was busy parenting ten kids but Mr. Pat Murray sure did a great job! I believe that since he knows the financial issues so many homeschoolers face he has made this program so affordable. You can get 60% off as well as a 6 month bonus!  Each lesson has a short video to watch, questions to answer and depending on the grade you may have a worksheet to complete.
I will say it took me a bit to navigate the parent portal so make sure to set aside time for that before diving in with your kiddo. Once the girls accounts were set up it was a matter of finding where each kiddo belonged and let them have at it! CTCMath is not common core and your child won't be boxed in to a certain grade level either. Some kids (like Skyler) are all over the map with math skills so it is great when one can work on certain topics they struggle with!

The first thing Skyler noticed was the instant feedback! She was excited that there was no waiting for me to look anything over and grade it!

The videos and questions are all on the same screen which to me was another bonus. They can watch their video then switch right into their questions, no searching all over. The video of course can be watched over and over until a child can fully grasp the content!

Skyler has a fear of math. I don't know how else to describe it. We had struggled for years until finding a program that actually worked, sadly that stopped working last year and we have just been in limbo since then using odds and ends of things. She was very leery about trying this but when she had completed her first assignment announced to me, "that wasn't so bad"! So she will use this for now and see how it goes.

Rhylie is doing well with it as well, even coming out of public school this year. CTCMath is a stand alone curriculum for up to eighth grade and recommended as a supplement after that.

The questions are done right there online but depending on the needs of your kiddo you may need some scratch paper and pencil.

When the child is finished with the lesson the option to complete more lessons is right there for them to move on. This again I really like because I believe that when kids aren't searching all over a website to get to a certain area it is less confusing for them. It will also save a lesson as well. If your child is struggling and needs to work on some stuff or for some reason you need to get offline then coming back and picking up isn't a problem. There is no need to start all over.

Every week you the parent will receive an e-mail with a report. This will tell you basically everything your child has done that past week. When they logged on, the lessons completed and of course their scores. This is another I like because in my state we have portfolio evaluations so I can just print these out and add them in to show proof of progress. All in all this is a great math program that I would highly recommend to any parent for their child.
