Filed Trip To The Farm
Today we went to Dudley Farm is Gainesville and as usual had a complete blast! We always feel like we are stepping back in time and my kids run all over that place, it truly is magical for those that adore history!
My children always like starting at the family home. They have their own little routine. They went along with a filed trip this time and they were a bit thrown off! It was fun having a guide though in my opinion. I was truly proud that for the most part my kids knew exactly what she was talking about and had answers to many of the questions even if they were a bit too shy to speak up.

Field Trip To The Farm
One of our favorite places to go is Dudley Farms. It is almost an hour away and in our opinion worth the drive! Every now and then they do these programs and we try to make it a point to go, This one was Christmas in July. The kids made some crafty ornaments by hand just like way back when! There were three choices and Skyler made two of them. The first one being a cute little felt mouse with a candy cane tail.
Skyler adores little rodents so of course she made a mouse! Next up was some thick paper snow flakes. We make these just about every year for a school room decorations but these were a bit more because she used a pattern, this is something we have never done so it was pretty neat!

Field Trips!!!!!!! During Spring Break
On Saturday we went to Camp fire cooking at Stephen Foster and had a BLAST!!!!! We heard some great folk music including a song titled "Do they still gather in White Springs"? It was beautiful. We heard a great story about Brer Rabbit and the Bull Aligator and it was just as funny as it was when I was a kid! We tried spider dogs, bodacious beans, sun tea and pineapple ring pancakes and it was all wonderful!! We had such fun with those ladies!!!
I learned how to save cast iron!!!!
SPIDER DOGS!!!!!
Even Damian joined the fun!
Look at my shy girl! SHE WAS SINGING!!!!!! In front of a group of strangers!!!!!!!!! I was amazed
When did Fox become my biggest kid????
Pineapple ring pancakes topped off the night! We will for sure be making these at home.
On Sunday Skyler and I went back in time for Partake of the Past at Dudley Farms.
We got to learn what chores were like back in the day, earn some "bucks" and spend them at the General Store.
She made an old optical illusion toy called a
Thaumatropes She chose a fish in a bowl.
She helped do laundry
She helped churn butter
This is a cool game parents used to teach young ones to milk cows
She grinded corn to feed the chickens and played with old timey toys
She even helped plow a field!
Watered a garden with a gourd water pitcher
Weeded a rose garden that has been growing for decades
Made some coffee
all together she earned 8 bucks!!! Off to the General Store.....
SPENT IT ALL ON CANDY!!!!
Great weekend spent at great places!!!!!

Week 10 and a field trip!!!
On Monday Math Fox won again. Gonna have to try and make this a bit harder for the kiddos!!! I have been using the math game every week and some daily math word problems from the teachers school house site. Next week we are getting back to using our business math.
This week both kiddos moved up a lesson in math so yay math!!! Fox was very proud that he finished his reader. War Of The Worlds. I am very proud. HE HATES TO READ!!! This is a big deal for him. He seems to like these reader books I managed to find at the warehouse. I am really glad I grabbed one of each!!!
Did I mention it still tickles me to see all of tem at he table! I missed Damian so much when he was at school!!!
We started our space study this week for science so of course we had to add in a Magic School Bus video!! They are a must and Fox and Skyler still like them LOL
We started building our solar system model as well. They will paint each one as they learn about it.
On Saturday we took a field trip to Dudley Farms. My kids really like this place very much. I had mixed up my days I thought this was kids craft day sadly it wasn't. They did have quite a few talented artists out around the place painting so that was still fun to see.
As you can tell from the pictures, Fox was overly excited this day!! I personally think he like Skylers little friend LOL.
We also learned about cane syrup. We learned how it is made where it comes from and such. Fox begged for a bottle so I got him one and he is the only one who likes it. I think it smells like spegheetio's. Blech!!!
Well that was our week!!!

Three Field Trips On One Day!!!!!!
I knew going in this would be a very very very looooong day!!! The morning started with scarecrows at Dudley Farms and was going going going all day long! It was a fun unforgettable day that is for sure.
Look at that cool scarecrow guy! I was for sure scared of him LOL. We learned about scarecrows today. Why do we have scarecrows, who were the original scarecrows, some history of scarecrows and did some scarecrow crafts! Skyler had fun the boys sat this one out. The volunteers that helped her were amazing. The farm was amazing as well. We had been there before but it was nice to go back. We love seeing all the old original things.
She made her own little scarecrow out of a cardboard tube,
She learned some history and got to play with various noisemakers that have been used to scare crows in the past.
She got to dress a scarecrow up too! I am sure that her scarecrow will scare the most crows away!!
Well, maybe her scarecrow is a nice scarecrow??
She also learned to grind corn and feed chickens!!
As I expected it was a fun day at the farm for her and for me too! On to Art In The Park at Stephen Foster . We seen some amazing artistic talent. I will say I really enjoyed the wood burning. I am hoping that may happen as a class in the future!
The couple who were doing this were just great. The talent they have is truly wonderful. Skyler adored her little wooden spoon she put a rooster on. I may have picked up a few little doo dads for a special granny for Christmas as well
Skyler made a dream catcher as well.
We got to talk all about the dream catchers. She was planning another for when we got home.
She got a picture with a giant racoon who teaches personal safety as well as finding Edgar the alligator for a free ice cream!!!
Because Skyler for sure needs that ice cream!!!!
After Art In The Park we went home for just a bit. Long enough to eat and grab my rough and tough boys for some outside fun! Learning about first aid in the wilderness. I will say that by the time we got here I was totally exhausted. I can barely remember everything I heard because it was just packed with info. He was very knowledgeable on the subject. He spoke like it was just second nature. I do remember smelling something like Vicks Vapo Rub and licorice though!! I did find out they have a book I may just look up at some point for my rowdy boys!!
I do remember sage burning helps with mosquitoes! I also remember some type of moss being good for cuts and such because it has penicillin in it. Let's just say I still am in no hurry to get lost in the woods anytime soon! All the while he did the presentation there was a lovely fire burning that moved my tiredness into down right sleepy mode!!!
I hope to never again do this many things in one day!!!
