Our Review Of Innovators Tribe Engineering

For the past few weeks we have had the privilege of reviewing Thinking Like An Engineer by Innovators Tribe. This program is a wonderful hands on approach for learning science, technology and art. It is great to use for STEM learning! My son Fox has always been the builder boy so I knew he would absolutely love this course and it did not disappoint. This is an online curriculum so internet connection is a must. The program is designed for grades 6-12.

Thinking Like an Engineer

This curriculum was created by Wayne Kroeplin and throughout the videos he is known as Mr. K to the students. The lessons are not lectures! This program truly fosters thinking skills and creative problem solving. It isn't just a do this or do that to get to this point type of thing. The kids have to really think to solve the challenges they are given.

Innovators Tribe What You Get

Each time you log in to the dash board you can pick right up where you left off from your last log in.

You will have a list to the side of what you have or have not already completed. Of course you can always go back and watch the videos again though if you would like too.

The course also has some printable journal type pages with questions for the students to complete. The questions are designed to make a point of certain concepts taught in the video lesson and in my opinion add to the hands on approach as well. I love that my son is doing more but having some things written down can also help in reviewing a certain topic that you may have forgotten or just need the review on.

Challenges are also a part of the program. The students have challenges or problems to solve. I like seeing that it is not just a do this or that assignment and thought is required. They can really see the concepts discussed in the lessons being put to actual use.  The challenges require a few basic supplies mostly paper. You also are given a supply list so you will have notice of what you will need before each lesson.

I find it easy if you maybe set up a basket with the supplies so it is always ready to go and there is no searching for items. In the second chapter you will download 3D Design Software. There is a walk through on how to use it so no worries there! Now if your child has no background of building things and physics it may be hard to follow at first. My son has been building stuff on his own since he was small but don't let it intimidate you or your kiddo. This is a wonderful hands on program and with a little problem solving you will see how easy building can be!

Besides the Thinking Like An Engineer program they also offer Thinking Like An Architect and Thinking Like A Carpenter. If you have a builder kid like me this company has all the courses for that!
