The first thing she wanted to use was the scissors. She is a bit older than the targeted age but she she enjoys uses different things to see if she can make them work in different ways!
These scissors are designed so that a young child or even an older child who may struggle with fine motor skills can be safe. Try as we might we couldn't get them to pinch our fingers or even get close enough to the blades due to the shield.
She had no issue cutting with them at all. These would have been super handy when my kiddos were younger to have. I have always let my children have free run of art supplies, able to do whatever they wanted when they wanted. While that is a great concept it was super messy at one time and I had a few who decided to cut their hair! Now, if you know me or my beautiful girls long hair is our thing so while that was tragic hair grows back! Memories though, well they last forever!!
The yellow lever inside the handle is very helpful to have as well. It can be used to hold the scissors open after they cut or close it and the child has to open the handle after cutting. Once again wonderful for learning fine motor skills as well as building them for kids who struggle in this area.
The next item is The Three Step Pencil Grip Training Kit. The reason I felt these would be great for Skyler is her art. She is a huge fan of drawing. It has three grips for this.
1. The Cross-Over Grip- this has wings to prevent the child's fingers from crossing over.
2. The Pinch Grip- this has partial wings. It is a gentle guide to still help a child yet give them a bit more freedom.
3. The Pencil Grip Original- This is the one for extended use. It helps with proper position and to scale back those bad habits! In my opinion it makes it more comfortable to use a pencil as well!
It also includes a handy chart of handwriting positions!
Out of the three she seemed to favor the first one. Using all three is no issue for her but for whatever reason she really likes the first one with the wings. She uses it all the time now while she draws!
