I started an author basket last year and since then it has turned into the literature/author basket! We added The Literature and Poetry book by The Thinking tree. Skyler said it was no longer just an author basket at that point! Right now it is full of Shakespeare things. She is still reading through some of his plays and she loves the extras in there too!
She is also enjoying her journal. When she finishes this one I will buy the next level!
I found this cool little puppet set at Rainbow Resources! Skyler has a blast with it.
This is a boxed set of some of his well known plays that my kids really enjoy reading.
The coloring book came from a yard sale for a quarter and it had never been used! Skyler doesn't really color in her books so I have to copy the pages she wants. Sometimes she will do the same page in five different ways!
After we read the Who was Shakespeare book and she reads the book she has picked she makes a journal page about them. I have quite a few of the journals in pdf so I just print as needed.
This cool little magnet set is by far the favorite thing in the basket! Skyler and Fox both play with it all the time even when it is not school time!
So how do they use it? Well every Tuesday is the day we do these activities. We usually read some of a book together then they read another of their choosing on their own. Skyler also uses the Literature Poetry journal. They play around with the puppets or the magnets. They can color if they want and sometimes I am lucky enough to get a movie about whoever is in the basket!
