Very last minute but Skyler was able to join a summer program for four weeks this year! This is a huge thing in my opinion for her! Skyler has never done a class or anything else for that matter without one of us near by. Even Zoology at the museum this past year I was waiting in the parking lot. For her to be away from all of us all day is a big deal to her. She was for sure scared when I dropped her off. She's got this though! She is an amazing good hearted child and I know she is going to love it!!
She is the baby and let's be honest we are all guilty of treating and sheltering her as such! She is the youngest and they all watch over her. She was basically the first to ever be a free spirit child. With one of us of course! She has always been an artsy type kid so going to The Melting Pot For Performing Arts was right up her alley! She is already doing so many fun things and it has only been a week! She had a rough first day but by lunch was all smiles and laughter! The thing with this place that besides the FUN she is even doing school work. Yep, she just can't get away from it even on break! Math stops for no kid!
This wonderful woman talks to her about her art and is teaching her to crochet!
The kids are reading A Tale Of Two Cities and also learning about theatre. She isn't crazy over the book but she is having fun knowing other kids are reading it and they discuss the book as well.
She is getting to do art!! All kinds of art and is having a blast while she is at it!! If there is a craft idea she hasn't tried she will be the first in line to try it!
She is making friends. Friends that she is making on her own with no help at all from any of us. She is doing good at it too!
They went hiking this week I mean you can't have a summer without a hike can you??
They also went to clean up a park and had a surprise visit from the mayor!
The kiddos are also getting to visit local businesses and learn about different types of jobs and the people that work there. Skyler told me her favorite thing was getting to meet an actual photographer. Skyler loves taking pictures and is getting really good at it!
We even found time to paint some tires for more fairy gardens!
The week at camp was so strange. She was gone every day, all day! I kept feeling like something was missing. The bonus I found is that the center is run by a home school mom and we share many ideas and thoughts on teaching kids. I know that even though she isn't right here with us Skyler is still with people who value our beliefs and respect our educational ideas. Skyler also went on a canoe for the first time this week so she will be ready to go with her grandpa anytime he hits the river now!
Check out Miss. Skyler on the canoe with the councilman!!
The kids also went on a visit to the Stephen Foster park. We used to go all the time but haven't been lately so I am sure she had fun there! I bet it was different having the ranger do a tour than all the times we just went ourselves.
After they they stopped for lunch at Fat Belly's. This is the towns family owned restaurant they even taught the kids about running a family business. To top of the trip they stopped at the old antique store for a nice little history lesson!
I am amazed at all the things the kids will be doing and different things they will be exposed too. I love when the kids get to do hands on learning not book work and this place is moving right along with that philosophy. She has so many stories to tell us every day and I am so glad she is having fun! The building she is in is full of amazing art work the director has done herself. Skyler is surrounded by so many things from other cultures and is having a blast learning about them. She is on the go all day and making wonderful memories!
